This is what a manual is!

Hi!  And welcome to my new series on how to better understand your camera and enjoy taking pictures.  This will be an ongoing series with posts (almost) every other Friday.  I will walk you through the basics of what the dials on your camera mean, the different settings and how to apply them.  Later, I will get into things like taking more meaningful pictures and where to go for great prints and products.  Let’s dive in!

The first thing that I am going to tell you to do is to get out your camera manual and READ it.  I know, this isn’t much fun, but trust me – it is necessary.  In the coming weeks (and hopefully months) I will be using terms and telling you to find things on your camera and you need to know what I’m talking about.  Without your manual, I might as well be speaking a foreign language.  It’s probably a good idea to keep your manual handy when you read my posts so that you can use it to refresh your memory, too.

Some of you may have more advanced cameras than others, and that is totally ok.  I am going to try my best to make sure that most of what I talk about is generic to most digital cameras.  Oh yeah, that is one thing that I should mention.  This is for those who are using digital cameras, not the film kind.  While I am a lover of film cameras, I am also an immediate gratification kind of person, so the digital camera is right up my alley!!!
